Opportunity Scholarship
If you plan to attend post-secondary school in South Dakota, and have met curriculum requirements in high school (with a grade of a C or better), plus have an overall GPA of 3.0 and score at least a 24 on your ACT, you most likely qualify. Your school will assist you with the paperwork for the scholarship. If you think you qualify, see Mrs. Stevens.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Interest in the high-need workforce areas
  • U.S. citizen or U.S. national
  • Financial need
  • Demonstrated aptitude through one or more of the following:
    • The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) or other industry-recognized certifications in the career area.
    • Technical, dual or concurrent credit courses taken in the career interest area.
    • Career & Technical Education coursework completed in the career interest area.
    • Work-based learning experiences, internships or work experience in the career interest area.
    • Enrolling as a first-time student

Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation ScholarshipsSeveral scholarships offered to SD students attending colleges or vocational/technical schools. Deadlines vary-check out website or come see me for more information.

South Dakota Amateur Softball Scholarship Scholarships awarded to participants and/or family members in the SDASA program. Family members must have participated in the SDASA program for at least 3 years as a player, coach, umpire, SDASA official, or league official. Due early March. See Mrs. Stevens for application.

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship Program Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Boys and girls compete separately. Top prize is $60,000 (nationally). Fourteen SD seniors will receive at least $1,000. The Most Valuable Student scholarship is due late November every year.

Black Hills Stock Show Foundation Scholarship Applicants must be from South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming or Nebraska (and attending a post-secondary accredited institution located in one of these states). Selection Process Selection will be based on the following criteria: 1. Academic (grades) 25% 2. Personal (employment, extra curricular, honors, community service) 25% 3. Short essay: “Advancing My Western Heritage Through Continuing Education and Career” 30% 4. Financial need (20%). Deadline December 15 of every year.

South Dakota Association of Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors Scholarships Educational Foundation is awarding two scholarships for students pursuing a career in the PHC industry; one scholarship is $1000 , and the other is $500. Deadline December 31 of every year.

US Bank Scholarship US Bank will award up to thirty $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend accredited two or four-year colleges next fall. Scholarship award recipients are selected though a random drawing process. Scholarship applications will be accepted soon. Applications available in January.

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Scholarship Each year $1,000 grants will be awarded to graduating high school seniors in the United States, who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. Deadline is December 15.

Eastern Chapter South Dakota Engineering Society Scholarship
For students who have excelled academically and/or attained high ACT scores who also plan on majoring in engineering at either SDSU or School of Mines. Deadline January of every year.

South Dakota High School Coaches Association ScholarshipEach year the South Dakota Coaches Foundation awards $1000 scholarships to qualified and deserving high school graduates. Eligibility: 1. Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited high school. 2. Each applicant must show ample evident that he/she is capable of succeeding at the post secondary level (transcript, GPA, rank in class, ACT or SAT scores) 3. The scholarship winner must attend an accredited institution of high education. Due February 10 every year.

Ramia Boersma Memorial ScholarshipThe South Dakota Education Association/NEA awards scholarships to outstanding students who are planning on entering the teaching profession . Student must be the son or daughter of an active or retired SDEA/NEA member. The Association may annually award up to three $750 scholarships for each academic year.
Deadline is February 15 every year.

Ardell Bjustad ScholarshipThis program is designed for freshman Native American students who are pursuing studies in agribusiness, agricultural production, agricultural sciences, or a natural resources degree at any postsecondary institution. Application available December.

Annis Irene Fowler/Kaden ScholarshipThis scholarship program provides funding to two first-time entering freshman at BHSU, DSU, NSU or USD and who will select elementary education as their major field. Special consideration is given to students with demonstrated motivational ability, a disability, or who are self-supporting. Application available December.

National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Scholar/Essay Application

Applicant must have achieved at least two (2) of the following:

(A) minimum of B+ average;

(B) Ranked in the top 25% of class;

(C) ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1100 (Verbal and Math only)

Plus, applicant must have participated in two sports for at least two years in each sport, must have earned at least one varsity letter in each of two sports, and school athletic director must be an NIAAA member and a member of their respective state athletic administrators association. One male and one female state winner, with potential to win more at advanced levels. Deadline is February 28.

Dakotaland Federal Credit Union ScholarshipThere will be (5) scholarships awarded in the amount of $1,000.00 each. Applicants must have been a member of Dakotaland FCU for at least one year before the closing date application. Applicants must be going to attend an accredited University, College or Technical Institute. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior, have previously completed high school, or be currently attending a college, university or technical institute. Deadline is mid-March.

American Legion Auxiliary Spirit of Youth Scholarship for Junior Members
Five four-year scholarships in the amount of $1000 per year shall be awarded. Candidates shall be Junior members of the South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary, and said Junior to have held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary for the past three years. Candidate now should hold a Junior membership card for the current year and continue her membership in the Auxiliary during the four year scholarship period. Applicants must have minimum of 3.0 GPA. Due March 15.

American Legion Auxiliary-Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarship
Candidates for this award shall be daughters, stepdaughters, sons, stepsons, grandsons, stepgrandsons, granddaughters, step-granddaughters, great-granddaughters, step-greatgranddaughters, great-grandsons, step-great-grandsons of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion (see application for dates). Also must have completed 50 hours of community service during high school. One annually per Auxiliary geographic division in the amount of $3,500, $3,000, and $2,500. Due March 1.

Fred & Marie Christopherson Scholarship
  • Plan to attend a four-year college or university in South Dakota.
  • Have a minimum cummulative GPA of 3.9 after seven semesters.
  • Have a minimum ACT score of 28.
AWARD: $2,500. Due March 15.

South Dakota Sheriffs' Association Scholarship
The SDSA provides eight $500 scholarships to criminal justice/law enforcement students each year. Two scholarships are offered each year at: USD, Western Dakota Technical Institute, or Colorado Technical Institute in Sioux Falls. Additionally, two are offered at large to students attending any college in the state pursuing a career in criminal justice. Due second Monday of every March.

SDACDE Karst Memorial ScholarshipThe SDACDE is offering Three (3) - $500 scholarships. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage those students concerned with conserving their natural resources by furthering their education in an agricultural related field. The scholarship is available to those attending a four-year college or a vocational college and pursuing an Ag related career.
Due March 31 of every year.

Curtis Marvin Hohn Scholarship A $1000 scholarship awarded to a senior attending a post-secondary school in SD pursuing studies in history, political science, or water resources related studies. Deadline is April 6 of every year.

South Dakota Association for Career and Technical Education Scholarship
Applicant must be applying to or accepted by a program at any SD technical institute, OR applying to or accepted into one of the following fields at any SD university: Health, Business, Trade and Industry, Marketing, Agricultural Education, and Family Consumer Science Education.
Deadline April of every year.

AGC South Dakota Highway Heavy Utilities Chapter

Scholarships awarded to students interested in a construction career. Five scholarships awarded in total. Deadline is May 1 of every year.

Samsung American Legion Scholarship
Scholarships of up to $20,000 derived from the Samsung endowment for American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State participants who are a direct descendant of a veteran who served during The American Legion membership eligibility dates. Due when student arrives at Girls or Boys State.
